Cave Crossfit
An unexpected surprise to me was Cave Crossfit (located on Beverly blvd, near The Grove in LA).
First- I want to say that this is the first crossfit box that I’ve been to that closely resembles my old box in Baltimore (Arenal Fitness). Huge glass windows everywhere so you don’t feel so claustrophobic. The walls are painted lime-green and the class sizes were small (maxed at 12 for space). On the wall behind the desk was a row of photos of the members and their goals. (why they joined the gym). It was refreshing to see how many people had the exact same goals as me (get toned, feel better, get healthier, etc) as opposed to “get ABS OF STEEL!”
The first part of the WOD was a strength drill of OverHead Squats. (I subbed in Backsquats). Zee (the trainer) was awesome enough to show me the “low bar” technique, which made me not only PR, but do a body-weight backsquat! (My max before was 135).
The WOD was as follows:
7min amrap:
3 pushpress (it was snatches, but because of my shoulder injury, I opted for pushpress). 85lbs
6 HSPU
9 Ringdips (blueband)
Overall, my shoulder hurt—but adding 50lbs to my backsquat PR I could have cared less. 😛
Thanks for making me feel so welcome, guys! 🙂 Everyone should check these guys out!
